  • Summer vacation – remember the sunscreen, ...remember your spinal health!

    Summer is finally here.

    Many of us will plan vacations in an attempt to leave our day-to-day cares behind. Unfortunately, we can’t leave our spinal subluxations behind when we hit the highway. Spinal challenges do not take vacations.

    As you plan your summer get-away, don’t forget to plan for proper spinal maintenance. Talk to your Chiropractor about creating a plan to accommodate your holidays, including fortifying yourself with extra care before your trip, and scheduling catch-up appointments upon your return.

    And remember travel itself can take its toll: long hours in transit, meals away from home affecting your digestion; disrupted sleep patterns; the stress of being in a new place and keeping track of passports, documents, and kids; all these and more can affect your spinal and overall health and well-being.

    While away, take these measures to keep your spine as healthy as possible:

    • Be sure to use seatbelts while in transit and helmets when on bikes, roller blades or scooters
    • Plan for comfortable bedding by bringing your own pillows if necessary
    • Be mindful of your posture during any activity including reading, driving, our lounging in the sun
    • Do your spinal exercises on the beach, in the hotel, or wherever it’s convenient.
    • Stay on schedule with your chiropractic adjustments as much as possible, or when you get back you may need a few extras. 

    All these can contribute to healthy spine maintenance while you’re away. You wouldn’t forget to protect your skin with sunscreen. Don’t forget to protect and look after your spine!
