Spine Goals for Stronger Neurological Support

Your spine is more than a stack of bones — it is the protective highway for your nervous system, allowing the brain to communicate clearly with the rest of the body. When spinal curves are aligned and moving well, interference and pressure on the nervous system can be reduced, helping the body function at its best.
Below are key spinal goals we focus on in chiropractic care — and simple ways you can support them at home & you can also hear Dr. Angela’s thoughts in this video: https://youtube.com/shorts/Yz3o5s5EhZ4
Goal #1: Proper Cervical Curve (Neck Alignment)
The neck should have a gentle backward curve that supports the head and protects the nerves traveling between the brain and body. When this curve is lost or reversed, it can increase stress on the nervous system, disrupting communication and eventually leading to organ system dis-ease.
Chiropractic care works to restore proper cervical positioning, while home tractioning tools help reinforce those changes.
Wellness and exercise goal for this year:
• Lying on your back with your head gently positioned over the edge of the bed
• Allowing gravity to help draw the head back, elongating the anterior longitudinal ligament, returning to a healthier curve that places less stress on the nervous system.
Over time, this teaches the spine to hold a better position naturally, supporting clearer brain-to-body communication, better body function, healing and recreation for noew and in the future.
Goal #2: Improved Thoracic Alignment & Mobility (Mid-Back)
The thoracic spine plays a huge role in posture, breathing, and overall spinal balance. Tightness or stiffness here can limit movement and place added strain on the neck and lower back.
Our goal is to increase mobility in this region so the spine can move and function as designed.
Wellness and exercise goal for this year:
• Lying lengthwise over a foam roller
• Performing gentle thoracic extension movements
This helps open the chest, reduce tension, and restore healthy motion in the mid-back. It also allows for better mechanics in the cervical and lumbar spine as each area is bio mechanically dependant on the other.
Goal #3: Strong Lumbar Support (Lower Back & Core)
The lumbar spine is made up of larger vertebrae because it supports the weight of the upper body and protects critical nerve pathways. Stability here is essential.
Core strength plays a major role in supporting the lumbar spine and reducing strain.
Wellness and exercise goal for this year:
• Core-strengthening exercises such as planks
• Focusing on controlled, steady engagement rather than speed
A stronger core helps the lower back better support the spine and nervous system.
The Big Picture
When the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions are aligned, mobile, and supported, the nervous system functions with less interference. This allows the brain to communicate more efficiently with the body — supporting healing, movement, and overall well-being.
Chiropractic care, combined with simple at-home tools and exercises, helps you move closer to these spinal and neurological goals every day.
